Air Resistance

We completed a science investigation about air resistance using parachutes. We were investigating does a larger surface area of a parachute make the time to land longer or shorter.

World Book Day

The children really enjoyed themselves today, taking time to immerse themselves in a wonderful story, "The Invisible" by Tom Percival. We talked about the different themes such as, community spirit and thankfulness which the children felt reflected our St-Matthews family.

In the morning, we joined a live session with Michael Morpurgo - the author of The Giants Necklace , that the children are currently reading in English.

In the afternoon we "buddied up' with a year 2 class and I am immensely proud of how every child in 6S happily took a child and read to them. From the photos you can see just how much fun we had!

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Parent's evening is on Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th of March. You will now have your time slots and I am looking forward to sharing your children's successes.

Trip to the Museum of Science and Industry

On Tuesday 14th March, we will going to the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester! This will fit into our current theme, "A World of Bright Ideas" and the children will be able to get some hands-on experience with some scientific revolutions!

WEEKLY SPELLINGS

Year 6 Spring 2 Spellings Overview

PE DAYS

PE is now on a Tuesday with Commando Joe and on a Friday with the 6S team. Please make sure you have the correct PE kit in school on both days.

In the first couple of weeks of Spring 1 the children revisited invasion games and practised the skills of attacking and defending. Here are a few photo's of what they got upto.

READING

We are currently embracing the love of reading for pleasure, and as such are enjoying being read to by your children every day in school. For this to continue - please ensure your child brings their reading book to school every day and take every opportunity to listen to them read at home too. This could be reading to grown-ups or even sharing a bedtime story with a younger sibling.

WHAT WE ARE LEARNING THIS TERM

We will be covering some exciting topics during Spring term and you can find out more about them in our curriculum letter.

THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

We are currently learning about the circulatory system and the different components of blood. To help the children visualise what this might look like, we made blood using a range of household items, including; food colouring, cereal, mini marshmallows and water! Who knew blood could be so tasty!
