We are currently reading the following books.
This half term our theme is Beside the seaside
'Beside the seaside' is a thematic unit based around the beach and coast, with a geography focus. Pupils will learn about key physical and human features of coastal places, and apply their learning to a study of Blackpool. Further map skills will be developed as part of this theme. They will also look at the beach and coast as a habitat for living things, learning more about how animals are adapted to their environment.
Take a look at our curriculum letter above to find out what we will be learning about.
Summer term - Going Wild! and Beside the Seaside
We have had so much fun with our Going Wild theme topic. We have looked at what living things need to survive, different animals and their classifications (mammals, amphibians, reptiles, birds or fish) and we have looked at parts of the body.
We had an amazing trip to Blackpool Zoo, where we got to see lots of amazing animals. We had talks from the zoo keepers about the elephants, the sea lions and the penguins. It was really interesting!
We have also had a visit from a mother and baby to discuss what a baby needs to survive and how a mother looks after it when it is still young. We also created animal prints in art, making our own print out of polystyrene.
The jubilee celebration was lots of fun. We sang songs, ate yummy food and danced.

Spring term – Paddington’s Passport and Inter-nation Media Station
In our Paddington Passport theme we have been having so much fun this half term learning about Peru and England. We have written non-chronological reports about spectacled bears and llamas, written rainforest descriptions and looked at the human and physical features of Peru. In PE we have been looking at improving our fitness, as well as dance. In dance we have been choreographing our own dances for plants growing. We have also had Safer Internet Day and Values Day where we studied the value of Trust.
In Spring 2 we have been equally busy. We have created our own weather reports, celebrated fair trade day and World book day, practiced our coding using beebots and learnt about the symbols of Easter. On Local history day we studied Samuel Crompton who was an inventor from Bolton. He played a large part in modernising the textile industry and we had our own go at weaving. We wore yellow and blue to show our support for Ukraine.
On science day we made string telephones and learnt about how vibrations work. We also conducted an experiment to see which biscuit was the best for dunking.
Our fabulous Easter bonnets! Have a great Easter everyone!
Climbing wall fun
Year 2 reached new heights on the climbing wall! The sun was shining and we had so much fun challenging ourselves to see how far we could climb. All of the children showed perseverance and determination.
Look how lucky we are to have an amazing library space! We enjoy going in here and exploring the books.
On World Book Day we had an amazing time. We dressed up as animals, read the book ‘The Barnabus Project’ and completed lots of work around the book. We also spent some time in the library and entered our book character potatoes into a competition.
We have been looking after our local area by taking part in a litter pick. We were really shocked with how much litter we found around the outside of our school. We decided as a class that it would be much better if we could have more rubbish bins around.

Look at all the fun things we did in the Autumn term.
We have been having so much fun with our learning. We have celebrated World Culture Day by looking at the country of Hungary, we have tried basketball when we learnt about Michael Jordan, created circuits in science, painted pictures holding a paintbrush with our toes and we done lots of group work and thinking activities. Year two have also had a visit from a firefighter as part of our hero topic. We asked him lots of questions and learnt about staying safe. Alongside this we have completed a 'No Pens Wednesday' with fun english and maths activities, as well as doing music, PE and RE lessons. We have also given our local area a tidy by doing a litter pick. We have been very busy!
Christmas in Year 2!
Wow! Year 2 have been having lots of Christmassy fun. We dressed up as elves and ran around the school hall for 10 minutes without stopping. We were raising money for Bolton Hospice. We had a magical visit from Comet and Cupid the reindeers. We have watched a pantomime in the school hall.
For Children In Need we did Fancy Dress Friday!
We came dressed as superheroes, princesses, knights, and even a paleontologist. Then we completed the quiz and workout with Joe Wicks.
We have been enjoying our sessions with Commando Joe. This week we undertook a variety of challenges. We had to balance over piranha infested water, hop over the lava grass and jump over the hurdles. It has been lots of fun! Our teamwork skills have really improved.
This video is all about how you can help your child read at home.
